Definition of Terms

  1. Initial List of Candidates for Graduation (ILCG) – list of students prepared by RO after the record evaluation.
  2. Verified List of Candidates for Graduation (VLCG) – list of students verified by College Dean, Program Chair and
    Faculty Members handling their professional courses.
  3. Reviewed Verified List of Candidates for Graduation (RVLCG) - list of students verified by OSS.
  4. Final List of Candidates for Graduation (FLCG) – students reviewed and endorsed for candidacy by the Colleges.
  5. List of Candidates for Graduation (LCG) – list of candidates for graduation reviewed and approved by the Academic
    Council.
  6. List of Graduates (LG) – list of graduates approved by the Board or Trustees.
  7. Official Communication – refers to the inter-office memo or any advisory in electronic or printed form.
  8. Application for Graduation Form (AGF) refers to the form filed by the applicant.
  9. College – refers to College Dean, Program Chair and Faculty Members.

Granting of Degrees and Certificates

A student may be granted a degree and certificate subject to the recommendation of the Dean, Program
Chair and the Faculty Members and confirmed by the Academic Council under the following
conditions:

  1. A student is eligible to graduate from the certificate or degree program in which he is enrolled, if:
    a. all course requirements have been met, provided that at least 60 percent of the total prescribed
    units in the curriculum is taken in Mapúa MCM;
    all obligations with Mapúa MCM is settled; and no pending disciplinary case or under charges that
    could lead to suspension or dismissal with the Office of Student Services.
  2. A student who is expecting to complete the coursework of his/her program must file an
    application for graduation within the prescribed period.
  3. Eligible graduating student will be endorsed by the College and will be subject to the approval of
    the Academic Council, President, and the Board of Trustees.
  4. Mapúa MCM will confer the academic degrees and certificates through the conduct of a
    Commencement Exercise
  5. Mapúa MCM will grant honorary degrees, distinguished service awards, special medals, and
    similar honors or awards to recognize individuals of exceptional accomplishments and
    distinctions.
  6. The College Registrar will keep a permanent record of degrees, certificates, and awards granted
    by the institution.
  7. Students eligible to graduate may opt to defer their graduation rites by informing Mapúa MCM in
    writing. The maximum period of deferral is until the next graduation ceremony.
  8. Students eligible to graduate may choose to graduate in absentia. Students who opt to graduate’
    in absentia’ are not permitted to participate in any future ceremony as recipient of the same
    certificate or degree.

Granting of Honors

Graduating students in each baccalaureate program are entitled to LATIN HONORS. The LATIN
HONORS are awarded to members of the graduating class who have satisfied the following
requirements:

  1. a. Must have completed a minimum of 80% of the required academic units for a degree in Mapúa
    MCM.
  2. Must have finished the program within the length of time prescribed by his curriculum or program
    of study plus one (1) term.
  3. Must not have obtained any grade of “5.00”, “FA”, “F”, “DRP”, or “CANCELLED” or their
    equivalence in all courses taken, if applicable, including courses that were taken from previous
    school or program for transferees and shiftees.
  4. The credit grade average shall be based on grades in the student’s program only and only resident
    units will be considered. This includes courses qualified as electives and courses officially filed
    as equivalent courses. Courses filed for credit only will not be included in the computation.
  5. Must be of good moral character and must not have a record of any disciplinary action meted out
    to him/her during his/her stay in Mapúa MCM.

The following Latin Honors shall apply:

Award for Two Year Programs

The Academic Achievement Award is awarded to a graduating student under a two-year program
who has satisfied the following requirements:

  1. Must have obtained the highest general weighted average but not lower than “1.75”.
  2. Must have completed a minimum of 80% of the required courses for a two-year program in Mapúa
    MCM.
  3. Must have finished the program within the length of time prescribed by his curriculum or program
    of study plus one (1) term.
  4. Must not have obtained any grade of “5.00”, “FA”, “F”, “DRP”, or “CANCELLED” or their
    equivalence in all courses taken, if applicable, including courses that were taken from previous
    school or program for transferees and shiftees.
  5. The credit grade average shall be based on grades in the student’s program only.
  6. Must be of good moral character and must not have a record of any disciplinary action meted out
    to him during his stay in Mapúa MCM.

Jose Rizal Award for Excellence and Relevance in Community Service (JRAERCS)

The Jose Rizal Award for Excellence and Relevance in Community Service (JRAERCS) is an
institutional award granted by the Mapúa MCM to deserving students who exemplify civic responsibility
through excellence, and relevance in extending voluntary services for community organizing and
development. Policies and Guidelines for this award are stipulated in CSCE-0002-IRR and CSCE
Manual.

Institutional Research Awards

The Institutional Research Awards is an institutional award granted by the Mapúa MCM to the
students per college who are engaged in research integrative courses (i.e., thesis, capstone) that is
presented to a panel of judges and obtain the best thesis/capstone award of their department. Policies
and Guidelines for this award are updated every year and are stipulated in ORDI’s Guidelines for the
Conduct of OSRA
